Slagordenen fra marinen 1983 (Navy Order of Battle 1983)

    Takk

    Bob

I am working on a naval game set in 1983. I have the following order of battle for the Navy. I am sure its not perfect and would welcome any corrections.

    Thanks

    Bob

      In the following publication:

Page 85 - 106, is what is claimed to be a complete inventory of all vessels the Norwegian Navy had in the years 1960 - 1990. The year in the first column (Sjøsatt) is year launched, and in the second column (Utrangert) is the year decommissioned, so the vessels launched before 1983 and decommissioned after 1983 should be the ones of relevance.

Starting to look through the xcellent information. Most of the tables I can work out, but what is SHV in "Other vessels / SHV" please.

If you look at the first image in post #5, the second table ("Marinens fartøy og mannskaper ØSD"), you'll see three columns - Faste fartøy, rekvirerte fartøy, SHV-fartøy.
"Faste fartøy" are regular naval vessels like KS Norge (the royal yacht).
"Rekvirerte fartøy" are requisitioned vessels, e.g. the three listed in the row "Minelegger" (minelayer), which I assume are the three civilian ferries between Horten and Moss, with equipment to assume duties as minelayers in a crisis/war.
And lastly, "SHV-fartøy" would usually be fishing boats, in this case 74 of them, used for observation/surveillance and other tasks. They could typically be armed with a heavy machine gun.

During this period, there were a number of other civilian ferries across the country that were mobilized and perhaps somewhat prepared to be minelayers.
There were also larger ferries and passenger boats that were mobilized as hospital ships.

Thanks for the answers, they are most helpful

Does anyone have an idea how quickly the mobilisation sailors can be on board their ships and the ships can sail?

I don't know the official figures, but I know that at least some of the SHV fishing vessels were manned by their ordinary crew. In that case it would only be a matter of putting on their uniforms and getting their rifles, which they had stored at home. So, maybe a few hours, although I guess they would then have to sail to a central site to load heavier weapons and other equipment. In any case, less than 24 hours would be a good estimate.

One more question please. The AA guns on the coastal forts. The few references I have seen show these as 20mm guns. Were they all 20mm guns or were some armed with 40mm?

De aller fleste her inne forstår engelsk like godt som norsk.

Both, 20 mm and 40 mm. Most forts had both.

Towards the end of the Cold War, the coastal forts also had RBS-70 short-range SAM launchers complementing the AAA. I'm not sure if they had this in 1983 though.
