Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced Sept. 29 that a regiment of about 130 Georgian servicemen would join the NATO Response Force, Agenda.ge reported. Georgia becomes the fourth non-NATO member to join the multinational force, which consists of highly trained troops and is tasked with deployments to defend allies in combat situations anywhere in the world. Georgia originally offered to join the force in 2013. The Russo-Georgian War of August 2008 marked Russia's resurgence as a regional power and exposed the West's unwillingness to defend a country that was formally aligned with both the European Union and NATO.

Tror ikke det forandrer stort. Nåværende regjering i Georgia virker å kjøre en forsiktig politikk mot Russland. Men er klar på at man vil inn i NATO og EU.
